Family: absolute existences

Families are absolute beings in many ways. Nothing can take the place of them. First of all, if they were not exist, we would not be born. If we were not be born, we will never know the pleasure of living. Second, families are the base of living. Man is a social animal who needs a lot of things to live well such as a housing, food, clothing and so on. They provide with such living necessaries. Third, families are a source of emotional support. By giving and taking unconditional love each other, we can be more stable and comfortable. For me, families are the reason I live on. Though I have not lived for a long time, I sometimes feel hard to live. Whenever I get into difficulties, they try to cheer me up. Whenever I feel lacking in strength, I think of my families, and my spirit rise again. Actually, their existences in themselves is encouraging. Especially I have stayed in Canada since last month. It is my first time to take apart with them for a long time, so I feel homesick and miss them very much. Before I came here, I took their love for granted. However, living here is by no means easy, for I have to do all by myself, so these days I have realized in various respects how deep their love was. For these reasons, families are incomparable existences.

The restriction of smoking

Cigarette smoking should be banned from all public places. Smoking is awfully harmful. There is no question about it. It is said that it contains more than four thousands harmful substances such as nicotine, carbon dioxide and so on which induced all sorts of diseases. However, the thing is that secondhand smoking is more dangerous than smoking. Nevertheless, we are still exposed to smoking fumes, and it threatens non smoker's health. On closer investigation, first, exposure by secondhand smoking before and after birth makes them at a risk of abnormal blood pressure, leukemia and a state of disorder. Second, it is a cause of asthma, chronic respiratory symptoms and middle ear infections in children. Third, it increases the risk of lung cancer, heart disease and eye and nasal problem in adults. For me, in my university especially an engineering college, most boy students smoked carelessly in the halls of the building. I had difficulty in breathing. Moreover I am more sensitive than others when it comes to odor, so I got a bad habit that I have hold my breath unconsciously even now. Smokers insist that the tobacco is one kind of their favorite food, so legal sanction could deprive of their liberty, but freedom could guarantee when they do not infringe on others' rights. They have no right to damage other's health. We non smokers have a right not affected by such terrible fumes. Therefore, smoking should be prohibited from all open spaces.

*Unexpected things in Treveling*

Traveling is the continuation of unexpected things for me.
I have traveled. I like it very much. It is one of the most exciting things I do. By experiencing, I think I became more open-minded, for I went through unforeseen experiences a lot. For instance, I went to Saipan with my friend four years ago. It was our first trip to go abroad, so we were really expecting to see emerald green beaches. However, against expectation, we encountered a terribly heavy storm I had never met before. It made the whole island black out for a few days. A lot of trees were laid low. It kept us from going outside. No one can imagine how much sad I was. One consolation in sadness was that we could look around the last day. After then, I went to the Sumilon which is one of the most beautiful islands in the Philippines. I took wonderful pictures, ate great meals, but I almost died when I enjoyed snorkeling. In appearance the wave was not rough, but it was, so not only I but also other people got bruises and scratches. On reflection, it was an unpleasant thing definitely. Right before I came here, I went to Hong Kong. I had a good time. I bought some clothes and ate delicious food. However, when I went to the Victoria peak to see a night view, I was caught in a long shower. What I saw was not the great night view but dense fog and rain. Therefore, traveling is the succession of odd experiences for me.

(Although I had somewhat of strange experiences, I liked them, and I will keep traveling forever. In fact, I have more good experiences than bad experiences)

To read an English book without a dictionary

To read an English book without a dictionary is the same to solve a crossword puzzle for me. Have you ever played a crossword puzzle? You feel you know the answer, but it dose not come to your mind. If so, how would you feel? For me? It bothers me very much. However, the game has many hints, so it makes me guess the answer and I can grasp the meaning from the context of the book. That is why I said they are similar.
Nevertheless, It is obviously true that it is very difficult. In due consideration of having studied English for so many years, I am not good at it. Whenever I meet many difficult words, I feel somewhat frustrated and stuffy. It is said that to read without a dictionary is one of the best ways to study but it is practically very hard. To sum up, to understand an English book without any help is similar to a puzzle game.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Frankly speaking, the number of what I have totally read an English book is only one. I tried to read one several times but I failed. Anyway, the title was Sam's letters to Jennifer. The stoty was that Sam and Jennifer, who had griefs, overcome their past and finally met thier soul mate. Meanwhile, I have to admit that prejudice is really dangerous. Before reading it, I judged that Sam would be a hero and Jennifer would be a heroine. Having those thoughts, I read the first part of the book but justly I could not understand. What is worse, I didnt know that who was a man and a woman. It was very confused, so I tried to throw those thoughts away and read it again. After that, I began to understand the story. Actually, Sam was Jennifer's grandmother. It was not interesting very much but it was my first reading in English, so it is meaningful for me.
In this case, the thing was not difficult words but the prejudice.

The Ulsan rock legend

People made a lot of legends to explain extraordinary things. The story of the Ulsan rock is also one of the interesting legends.
Long time ago, the Creator decided to make one of the greatest mountains in the world which has 12,000 peaks. He collected the whole country's peaks toward the Geumgang Mountains but there were the target date and the examination for making new mountains. So Many peaks gathered around there. At the same time, the Ulsan rock, whose perimeter was 4,000m and lived in Ulsan, headed for the destination. However, he was too big to hurry, and he easily got tired; he took a rest nearby Mt. Seorak. The next day he finally arrived but the term already expired so he had to get back. On the way back, he thought. "If I go back, I would be a laughingstock." So he decided to settle down where he took a rest yesterday. That's why we call it the Ulsan rock even though it is not in Ulsan. In conclusion, we can use the legend to make something unusual clear.

(Actually, the distance between Ulsan and Mt. Seorak area is very far)
